Clear your schedule and get your tickets; all students get in free to SonFest 2015!
With doors opening at noon, MVNU will kick off its 18th annual outdoor music festival Saturday. The event will take place rain or shine. The weather forecast is calling for sunshine and a high temperature in the 70s.
MVNU students will be admitted for free to this event by showing their student ID at the gate.
Students and adults from the tri-state area will gather together for community and worship at MVNU’s largest annual event. Last year’s event drew about 1,500 people despite the cold, damp weather.
Featuring a range of music styles from hip-hop and rock to contemporary and indie, the lineup has something for everyone.
After receiving feedback from students, faculty and MVNU guests, admissions chose I Am They, Leeland, Trip Lee and Colton Dixon as the 2015 headliners.
“We wanted to book artists that appeal not only to our off-campus guests, but to the student body as well,” Admissions Events Assistant Brooke Robinson said.
With these new yet popular Christian artists, MVNU admissions and marketing are gearing up for an incredible outdoor festival.
Joe Rinehart, director of broadcasting at WNZR and a member of the marketing committee for SonFest 2015, said the goal for every SonFest “is to have three or four active, known and charting bands. SonFest 2015 has accomplished that goal.”
In addition, SonFest is excited to welcome Central Ohio bands such as Fever Fever, DaMac, The Florals, Take the Name and MVNU’s very own Wyndsor to the stage this year.
As in previous years, SonFest will offer more than just a concert atmosphere to those who attend.
“We’ll have a climbing wall and some other large inflatables, plus we’re bringing in games like 9 Square in the Air and other backyard games so that people can create a more organic atmosphere of community,” Robinson said.
Organized games including sand volleyball will be offered as well.
Ride Nature, a sports mission organization, also will be attending SonFest 2015. Executive director Mark Koch is an MVNU alum passionate about action sports. Ride Nature will have a skate park set up at the festival and will put on skating demonstrations throughout the day.
Robinson encourages all students and guests to bring their skateboards to participate in Ride Nature’s exhibit. You can visit ridenature.org for more information on this organization.
As always, SonFest coordinators are working to provide on-site food and drink vendors with a variety of foods available for purchase.
