MVNU to explore Germany and Switzerland

MVNU is partnering with Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) to give students a once in a lifetime opportunity. Students will have the option to travel to Germany and Switzerland and learn about the culture, art and life in another country.

Students will follow the footsteps of reformers during the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. One particularly interesting site is All Saints Castle Church in Wittenberg where Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses.

Over the course of the trip students will explore sites in Northeast Germany such as the Olympic stadium and Brandenburg Gate. As the group begins to travel south through the country they will stay overnight at the Castle Hotel Buehlerhoehe in Erfurt.

The itinerary also includes Wartburg Castle, Erfurt Cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum. After touring the highlights of Germany, the group will eventually stop in Konstanz.

The travelers will then get out their passports once again as they journey to Stein am Rhein, Switzerland. After crossing the border into Switzerland, students will travel through the country seeing sites such as the ancient streets of Bern, the stunning scenery of the Lake Lucerne and St. Pierre's Cathedral where John Calvin taught.

The group will also explore the Alpine peaks and the Jura Mountains to end the trip in Geneva. From there students will fly back to the States.

The entire trip costs $4,500. Scholarships and fundraising letters are available for MVNU students, and the payment schedule can be seen below.

“This is the trip of a lifetime!” said Dr. William Wantland, department chair of history and political science. “The trip would be difficult to duplicate on one’s own and may cost considerably more. Virtually everything someone could want is included—transportation, guides, food and admission to the sites.”

This experience is not only open to MVNU and NTS students; parents, friends, pastors and alumni are also welcome.

The trip will take place May 8 – 17, 2017 and can be counted for class credit during spring semester 2017. Course options that include the trip are listed below. While course credit is highly recommended, it is not required for the trip.

Students who are interested in the trip should talk to their advisor. The next informational meeting will be held in early October. You can go online to
