Golf takes 10th at Taylor Invitational

The MVNU men’s golf team came in 10th place out of 19 teams at the Taylor University Invitational. The women’s team finished in 10th place out of the 13 teams competing.

Leading the way for the men was sophomore Kaden Welch with a total score of 150.

Welch finished day one with a score of 74 and day two with a score of 76. Junior Sean Thomas finished the tournament with a total score of 155.

“We didn’t play our best. It was a hard course but we should have been better,” Thomas said. He added that the Cougars are still working towards their goal as a team and as individual competitors.

“We have to put all of the right pieces together in our game to come out with a win,” Thomas said.

Senior Brittany Smith led the Cougars with a first-round score of 83 and a second-round score of 82. Smith finished the tournament with a total score of 165. Sophomore Rachel Schroeder was just seven strokes behind with a score of 172.

The Cougars will be back in action on Oct. 14 as they host the MVNU Fall Invitational.
