Men's golf finishes in top 10

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s golf team finished sixth out of 15 teams at the Purgatory Intercollegiate Invitational.

Sophomore Sam Romine tied for eighth place. He totaled 152 (75, 77) over the two-day match. Junior Sean Thomas’ 160 total (79, 81) earned him a 34th-place finish, and sophomore Kaden Welch finished one stroke behind Thomas.

“We played well in our first start of the spring season,” Romine said.

However, the wind conditions at Taylor University made the round difficult.

“The conditions were challenging, but we put together two good rounds,” Romine said.

He was “very pleased” with the Cougars’ overall finish.

The Cougars will host the MVNU Spring Classic on Saturday at Chapel Hill Golf Course.

Romine looks forward to the match and playing on his home course.

“We know the course well,” he said. “It’s all about getting some good practice in this week.”

Romine and the rest of the Cougar golf team will “tighten up a few things” heading into the match.
