Ashwill scores 1,000th career point
Senior guard Josh Ashwill scored his 1,000th career point against Grace College Wednesday night.
Ashwill went into the game just seven points shy of 1,000.
He said he is thankful for his coaches and teammates for their support.
"Scoring 1,000 points would have never been accomplished if it weren't for my great coaches and teammates," Ashwill said. "They have always believed in me.”
Head coach Jared Ronai praised Ashwill and said he is proud of the senior for his accomplishments on and off the court.
"He's our leader. He's our heart and soul on the floor," Ronai said in the postgame interview with WNZR’s Jacob Chrysler Wednesday night. "He's been a big part of the RULE Cougar culture.”
RULE Cougar, a philosophy Ronai implemented during his first season as head coach, is an acronym that stands for relentless, unbreakable, leadership, and excellence.
During the game against Grace, Ashwill scored 15 points, recorded eight assists, and grabbed three rebounds in the Cougars' 89-83 loss. The game pushed Ashwill to 1,008 career points.
