The MVNU golf team resumed its 2014-15 campaign last week after a successful fall season, which featured two wins and two second place finishes.

Under new head coach Mike King, the Cougars took third place at the UIS Beach Bash invitational in Daytona Beach. Charlie Phillips finished second in the individual standings, shooting a 72, four shots off the lead. Tyler Alexander, Sean Thomas and Jaron Brust all finished with 82 strokes and Zack Forker finished at 83.

King was enthused by his team’s efforts in Florida but is looking ahead to the rest of the season. The goal, he said, is to get the players to “go out and play within themselves.”

“It will be important for them to focus in and play shot to shot and play their game,” he said. “If we can do these things, I think we’ll be successful.”

The spring conference season begins this weekend with a trip to the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational at Meshingomesia Golf Club. The Cougars will host a Spring Invitational at Chapel Hill Golf Club on April 18.
