MVNU woke up to no power on the Saturday of SonFest

As the Saturday of SonFest dawned, it seemed like everything was falling perfectly into place. With preparations under way and not a rain cloud in sight, things were coming together without a hitch. However, as students soon discovered - and tweeted about - a campus wide blackout threw a wrench into the plans early Saturday morning, temporarily shutting down The 586 and delaying the start of lunch in the Caf. A report from American Electric Power (AEP) Ohio confirms a 3-hour outage affecting a total of 764 customers. The outage was caused by a span of overhead wire that was down originating in the Westwood Drive area of town. The outage started at 8:35 a.m. with power restored again at 11:38 a.m., just in time to finalize last minute SonFest details. Though the outage was quite unexpected, SonFest preparations continued as smoothly as possible. Volunteer and Former MVNU Admissions Counselor Abby Anderson provided reassurance that SonFest had its own generators to work with, and Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management James Smith said the power outage "was a pain, but we recovered." They certainly recovered quite well; the day was a total success with crowds of SonFest goers enjoying a fantastic event, thanks to Admissions Officials and many volunteers.
