Cougars extend winning streak
The MVNU men’s soccer team (9-2-1) picked up two victories this week, edging Taylor University 1-0 on Wednesday and topping (19) Indiana Wesleyan University 2-1 on Saturday.
The rainy weather conditions of Wednesday’s match made playing rough on Cougar field. The Cougars and Taylor University Trojans held one another scoreless until 90 minutes in when MVNU freshman Tim Kasparek put the Cougars ahead with his last-minute score, giving MVNU its eighth win of the season.
“We have to be ready to handle anything,” coach Andrew Belleman said after the win.
After the Wildcats gained the lead 1-0 about 20 minutes in to Saturday’s match, the Cougars and Wildcats went scoreless for 55 minutes of play. MVNU senior Dennis Taylor tied it up in the 76th minute.
With a renewed energy, the team played hard for the remaining minutes and freshman Connor Davis gave the Cougars his fifth goal of the season and the victory in the 83rd minute.
The Cougars will take on the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday as part of a double-header with the women’s soccer team. The men will kick off at 2:30 p.m. and the Lady Cougars will also take on the University of Saint Francis following the men’s game.
