Men's soccer to play at Mount Vernon High School

The MVNU men's soccer team will play two of their final three home games of the season at Mount Vernon High School.

Rough field conditions, patchy grass and muddy areas at Cougar field this fall contributed to the change of venue.

But mostly, Belleman said, his team is looking forward to experiencing the energy and atmosphere that typically characterize night games.

The turf and lights at the high school field make the location appealing for evening games.

The synthetic fibers of the turn have the appearance of grass but make for a more durable field. While grass is easily torn up resulting in mud and a slippery playing surface, increasing the chance of injury.

“The atmosphere at the high school’s field is great and we love playing on turf,” Cougars Head Coach Andrew Belleman said. “The guys love playing there. We have practiced there a lot and played some spring games there.”

The Cougars will host Huntington University at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, Oct. 8 for their first home game under the lights this season.

Belleman looks forward to the evening match and playing under the lights in front of a home crowd.

“I think it'll draw in more fans,” he said. “Playing under the lights is exciting, and we're ready for the challenge that Huntington will bring us.”

The Cougars will also host Grace College at Mount Vernon High School at 7:00 P.M. on Oct. 19.

During the game the team and fans will celebrate the careers of seniors Tent Chivatanaporn, Daniel Rodriguez, Enrique Salazar, Taylor Dyson, and Dennis Taylor as the Cougars face off against the Lancers.

“We hope to get a lot of fans to come out for senior night,” Belleman said.

The Cougars are 10-2-1 with a conference record of 3-1.
