Volleyball picks up 10th conference win

The MVNU volleyball team (21-3) picked up one win and one loss last week, beating out Spring Arbor University 3-1 (25-11, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16) and falling to the University of Rio Grande 3-2 (25-22, 28-26, 24-26, 17-25, 12-15).

Senior Annelise Rohrer tallied 20 kills as the Cougars picked up their 21st win of the season against Spring Arbor while junior Ashley Gingerich recorded 29 digs on the night.

The victory improved the team’s Crossroads League record to 10-1.

On Thursday, the Cougars took a break from league play and competed against the University of Rio Grande. In a heated match, the Lady Cougars won the first two games before the Red Storm came back and won three straight for the victory.

Rohrer led the Lady Cougar attack again with 20 kills to go with 27 digs in MVNU’s loss. Gingerich finished the match with 32 kills.

The Lady Cougars look to come back against Grace College on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

“As a team we will focus on being ready for a quick offense,” said Rohrer. “We will also have to have quick blocks and scrappy defense.”

The home match will begin at 7 p.m. at Ariel Arena.
