Lady Cougars fall short against Lady Knights

The MVNU Lady Cougars basketball team (3-5) fell to Marian University (7-1) 89-58 in their only game last week.

Marian took control of the game early, ending the first quarter with a 22-13 lead.

The Lady Cougars came back to outscore Marian 21-19 in the second quarter, cutting the halftime deficit to 41-34.

But a 26-9 run in the third quarter gave Marian a 67-43 lead. Marian closed out the Lady Cougars in the fourth quarter.

MVNU junior Natalie Carpenter recorded 14 points and sophomore Rachel Parks tallied 10 points. Senior Megan Beidelman added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

Head Coach Amanda Short was happy with the way the team played in the first half, but credited “lapses in the second half” for the loss.

“We have to work on our defense and make sure that when we get down, we don’t lose energy,” Short said.

The Lady Cougars will travel to Grace College on Tuesday for their second Crossroads League matchup.

“We're working hard on fixing the things we need to do better and preparing the best we can to go out and get a win,” Parks said.

MVNU and Grace will tip off at 7 p.m on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast through wnzr.tv.
