LEAP to perform in Columbus

MVNU’s LEAP Dance Ministry will take the stage at One Hope Community Church of the Nazarene in Columbus on Tuesday.

LEAP, Living Expressing All Praise, is a campus-wide club that gives students an opportunity to worship through dance, group fellowship and praise to their audience of One.

LEAP members performed earlier this semester in chapel, doing their routine, “Thy Will.”

The group will perform this piece along with others they have been working on this Tuesday.

“We are going to the church to lead a Bible study with the youth group there,” co-leader Emily Metille said. “Our plan is to show them a couple of the routines we have completed so far this year, ‘Thy Will’ and ‘Control.’”

The group will start with devotion and prayer requests before moving into the dance portion.

Their hope is always to share the love of dance with others in a way that glorifies Christ.

Laura Roth, one of the LEAP members, reached out to her home church in Columbus hoping for an opportunity for LEAP to minister off campus.

The group will perform for One Hope Community’s intercultural youth group allowing the teens to experience a new form of worship.

“I was very excited that we could make this trip happen because I know how much it will mean to her to combine two of her ‘families’ in worship to God!” co-leader Catie Jugenheimer said.

The purpose of this trip is to continue to spread the love of God through dance.

“We will also be leading a small workshop to teach the teens a short routine and to show them that dance is a form of worship too,” Jugenheimer said.

One of the songs that the group will be performing is titled “Control.”

“I heard the song this past summer and felt overwhelmed with the clarity in the lyrics and just wanted to return thanks to God through dance,” Jugenheimer said. “The passion came first, and the moves came later.”

LEAP hopes to continue performing for congregations and ministering to the campus of MVNU.

“We have a few more trips to the churches of some of the members and will be dancing at Spring Revival,” Jugenheimer said.

LEAP members also are planning to host their second annual worship night in the Grove on April 19.

The night will include all of the routines the group has worked on this school year along with testimonies from students.

“This will definitely be our biggest event of the semester,” Jugenheimer said.
