Get a Jump Start at CareerFest
One of Ohio’s largest career fairs will kick off Friday, Feb. 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
CareerFest is a career fair for students seeking internships, job opportunities or graduate school. Each year the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges hosts the one-day event with intentions of helping students explore various types of careers and graduate schools.
According to Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Director of Career Development Gary Swisher, the fair is a chance to encounter real opportunities.
“There is no substitute for getting out there and jumpstarting your job or internship search,” Swisher said. “Some students will land jobs as a direct result of their participation.”
Even though students in the past have been nervous about attending CareerFest and meeting with potential employers, overall there is positive feedback, Swisher said.
Students have mentioned that interviewing with a company is “much less intimidating when you aren’t the only candidate in the room,” Swisher said.
CareerFest will take place Feb. 2 at the Ohio Expo Center. Mount Vernon Nazarene University will provide transportation to students who are participating. Class absences are excusable for this event.
