Fall sports making waves

Volleyball — The undefeated MVNU volleyball team has won 18 games in a row to start off the 2015-2016 season. Junior Annelise Rohrer and freshman Kristen Osborn have powered the Lady Cougars, who are receiving votes in the NAIA National Volleyball Poll. MVNU senior libero Marlowe Beatty has received NAIA National Defender of the Week honors twice, and been named the Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Week five times. Junior Bridget Troyer has just been named the Crossroads League Volleyball Setter of the Week. The Cougars look to extend their win streak to 19 on Friday when they take on Goshen College at home in Ariel Arena.

Women’s Soccer — The women’s soccer team is off to a great start to the season. The Lady Cougars, who are 8-3 after Tuesday’s game, are currently ranked 20th in the NAIA National Women’s Soccer Poll. Leading the way for the Lady Cougars is senior Rachel Baker, who has 8 goals to go with 4 assists on the season, and junior Emily Heaton, who has found the back of the net 6 times and assisted her teammates once. The Lady Cougars will face-off against (10) Spring Arbor University at Cougar Field on Saturday.

Men’s Soccer — The men’s soccer team came into the week with a 4-3-3 record after tying with The University of Saint Francis on Saturday. Three Cougars — senior Preston Spurrier, sophomore Josh Alexander and freshman Thorben Glusing — have each scored three goals apiece this season, while freshman Noah Larson has paced the Cougars with five goals in the first 10 games of the season.
