Golf tees up over spring break
Like many other athletic teams and MVNU students, the men’s and women’s golf teams left Ohio for a warmer climate during the two week spring break. They traveled to Lake Wales, Fla., to participate in the Warner University Invitational.
In day one of the invitational, the men’s team came in sixth place out of 13 teams while the women’s team took ninth out of 10 teams.
On day two, the men’s team placed seventh out of 12 teams, and the women’s team landed in ninth out of nine teams participating.
MVNU senior Charlie Phillips tied for 19th place out of 75 golfers. Phillips tallied a final score of 231, just 11 strokes short of first place Edvin Lindgren of Warner University. Sophomore Sean Thomas finished with a final score of 238, and junior Zack Forker ended the invitational with a score of 242.
Junior Andrea Martin paced the women’s team, finishing in 25th place out of 50 golfers. Martin, 31 strokes short of first place Savanna Fisher of Weber International University, finished the invitational with a score of 187. Junior Brittany Smith ended with a tally of 196.
The men’s and women’s golf teams will be back in action on Friday, April 1 as they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., where they will participate in the Saint Francis Invitational.
