Golf earns first place and breaks records

The MVNU men’s golf team came in first out of the eight teams competing at the MVNU Fall Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Cougars came in third place out of four teams.

Leading the way and winning the tournament for the Cougars was junior Sean Thomas with a total score of 140. Thomas finished day one of the tournament with a score of 71 and day two with a score of 69.

“It helped that it was our home tournament. I felt a little more comfortable with the course,” Thomas said.

Thomas said the keys to his individual success were making adjustmen

ts and maintaining focus.

Sophomore Sam Romine finished the tournament in sixth place with a total score of 150.

Senior Brittany Smith broke the MVNU women’s golf individual round record with a day one score of 76 to break the single round record of 79 she set earlier this fall at the USF Fall Invitational at Cherry Hill Golf Club.

Smith’s total score of 160 propelled the Lady Cougars into third place.

The Cougars have wrapped up their fall schedule but will be back in action again in the spring.

“We are going to start working again here this offseason and hopefully pick up where we left off once spring rolls around,” Thomas said.
