Lady Cougars wrap up regular season

The MVNU women’s soccer team (10-8) finished off the regular season with a loss and a win, falling to Grace College 1-0 and topping Bethel College at home 2-1.

Grace scored with just 17 minutes left in the game last Wednesday. The lone goal from Flavia Faria was enough to secure the victory for the Lancers.

The Cougars closed out the regular season with a win over Bethel in front of a home crowd over the weekend. Senior Allison Paley put the ladies up 1-0 after 25 minutes of play. Just 23 seconds later, Lauren Hostetler of the Lady Pilots knotted the game at 1-1.

With 41 minutes left in the game, Paley found the back of the net for the second time of game and for her 10th time this season.

“It wasn’t our prettiest game, but we pulled it off,” Paley said about the Cougars’ fourth conference win of the season.

Third-seeded Marian University will host sixth-seeded MVNU on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinals.

The Cougars will prepare for their first tournament match by watching film of their recent regular-season match against Marian, a 3-2 loss.

“We will analyze what we believe works best against their system as well as seeing what we need to improve on,” Paley said.
