MVNU students present art and graphic design shows

The MVNU and Mount Vernon communities are invited to attend three exhibits from the MVNU Art and Graphic Design students at the Schnormeier Art Gallery this spring.

The first student art exhibition already is underway and runs through March 29 with the gallery open weekdays from noon to 4:30 p.m. Art and design students from all classes and concentrations are displaying their work.

The reception for the exhibition will take place on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. All students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to the reception at Schnormeier Art Gallery located in downtown Mount Vernon.

The art students and faculty members will be at the gallery that evening. The event is free and open to the public.

"It is important for students, faculty and staff to engage in the creative process with student artists by looking, asking questions, sharing ideas, and ultimately imagining who we are both as created beings and co-creators in the world." said Peter Stevens, administrator at the gallery.

After the art exhibit closes, the Schnormeier Art Gallery will be transformed to showcase the work of MVNU’s senior graphic design students.

The senior show will be open April 3-11 with the reception taking place April 7. Those who attend the reception will have the opportunity to talk with the designers and ask questions.

The third show will take place at the gallery April 18-28. This show will display the work of senior art students.

The students and faculty will host the reception on April 20. Those who attend will have the opportunity to meet the artists and speak to them about their work.

Stevens encourages the campus community to support the shows. A good turnout “affirms the breadth of what is being taught in the Art and Design Department as an integral part of the academic community.”
